Miles Fellenberg, piano
Hailed by Cleveland Classical as performing with “fiery energy,” American pianist Miles Fellenberg is regularly invited as a pianist, conductor, and educator throughout the United States and abroad. Known for his extensive repertoire and affinity for chamber music, Fellenberg leads a multifaceted career and is highly sought after by instrumentalists, singers, and fellow pianists.
Fellenberg has performed in recital with instrumentalists, singers, and as a soloist at numerous colleges and universities, where he frequently gives lectures or masterclasses, including The Juilliard School, Manhattan School of Music, Harvard University, Yale University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dartmouth College, Syracuse University, University of Massachusetts, Jersey City University, New York University, City University of New York, Scranton University and at notable concert venues, including Alice Tully Hall, Weill Recital Hall, Jordan Hall, Museum of Modern Art, 92nd Street Y, Cleveland Museum of Art, Santa Barbara Museum of Art, the Old State House (MA), Aspen Music Festival, Music Academy of the West, Bowdoin International Music Festival, Eastern Music Festival, and internationally in Mexico, Ecuador, Italy, China, and South Korea.
Fellenberg has performed in hundreds of orchestra concerts under the baton of many of the world’s great conductors, including Alan Gilbert, Leonard Slatkin, Hugh Wolff, Peter Oundjian, Larry Rachleff, James Gaffigan, and Mei-Ann Chen and recorded with Timothy Weiss and the Oberlin Contemporary Music Ensemble. Fellenberg was a guest teacher for the National Youth Orchestra of the USA. He is currently a member of Ensemble Parallax and the CØDA Ensemble and regularly performs with orchestras and new music ensembles throughout New England.
Fellenberg is the Music Director of the Bronx Community Chorus and the Young Artist Initiative (MA). He served as the Assistant Conductor and Accompanist of the Central City Chorus (NY) and the Assistant Conductor of the Oberlin-in-Italy Music Festival. He helped prepare both professional and amateur singers for Gilbert & Sullivan productions as Chorus Master of the Delaware Valley Opera and has performed with the Fordham University Chorus and Voices Rising, a Boston-based women’s chorus. He performs regularly with Harold Rosenbaum and the New York Virtuoso Singers.
Fellenberg has a keen interest in teaching and has worked closely with numerous students. He founded and directed the New Jersey Young Artist Piano Competition, which provided scholarships and guidance to young high-school-aged pianists. Fellenberg formerly taught piano and chamber music at Church Street School of Music & Art, Brooklyn Musical Arts, and the Rappahannock Summer Music Camp and was a guest teacher at Manhattan School of Music (Precollege Division), El Conservatorio Franz Liszt (Ecuador), Shenyang Conservatory (China), and Chageun-Byeol Music Academy (South Korea). He is currently on the piano faculty at Interharmony International Music Festival (Italy), the New England Flute Institute, and teaches Ear Training, Keyboard Skills, and Vocal Coaching at New England Conservatory. He maintains a small, select in-person and virtual piano studio; many of his former students have pursued careers in piano (and many enjoy playing for fun)!
He holds a Bachelor of Music from Oberlin Conservatory, a Master of Music from The Juilliard School, and doctoral studies at New England Conservatory. His principal teachers include Jonathan Feldman, Cameron Stowe, Margo Garrett, Robert Shannon, and Arkady Aronov.
