Hannah Burnett, viola
New York-based violist Hannah Burnett holds an international performing career, with appearances at Carnegie Hall, Harris Concert Hall, the Royal Concertgebouw, Smetana Hall, and the National Centre for the Performing Arts (Beijing). Ms. Burnett has had a wide variety of performance opportunities. In November of 2018, she soloed with the Oregon East Symphony, performing Mozart’s duo Sinfonia Concertante. She has played in solo and chamber masterclasses for Ronald Copes, Mark Jackobs, Robert McDonald, Cynthia Phelps, and Astrid Schween. She plays regularly with the Princeton and the Greater Bridgeport Symphonies, and served as principal violist of the Juilliard Orchestra, performing under the batons of Gustavo Dudamel, Marin Alsop, and John Adams. Hannah was a quarter finalist in the 2021 Primrose International Viola Competition.
Ms. Burnett’s true passion lies with chamber music. She has spent summers at Kneisel Hall and Yellow Barn, and has been a guest artist in the Arazzo festival and the Chagall Project, which are both chamber-centric organizations. Hannah has been coached by members of the Juilliard String Quartet and has collaborated with artists such as Natasha Brofsky, Laurie Smukler, Anthony Marwood, Gilbert Kalish, Krzysztof Chorzelski, Donald Weilerstein, and Janine Jansen. Ms. Burnett is a passionate performer of new music, and recently premiered chamber works by acclaimed composers Philippe Hersant and Robert Piéchaud. She was a founding member of the Unison String Quartet, who attended the Juilliard String Quartet Seminar, was the quartet in residence at the Perlman Music Program and The Center for Advanced Quartet Studies at the Aspen Music Festival, and was a finalist at the 2021 Bartok World Competition.
As an educator, Hannah holds a faculty position at the Greenwich Suzuki Academy, where she maintains a full studio year-round, and is a teaching artist for the Harmony Program, where she works in group settings at public elementary schools around the city. Ms. Burnett completed her Bachelor’s (2020) and Master’s (2022) degrees at The Juilliard School under the tutelage of Roger Tapping and Misha Amory, and was a proud recipient of the Kovner Fellowship.
